EIHEIJI - "temple of eternal peace" - one of Soto Zen's Two head temple in Japan.

ZEN

If you like the ZEN, you should go to the temple called
"EIHEIJI" which is called "Temple of eternal peace",
Soto Zen's Two head temple.

The founder of EIHEIJI is Dogen Zenji.
He went to China when he was 24 years old, and
devoted himself to true Zen practice under the strict
guidance of Nyojo zenji at Mt. Tendo.

In 1244 Dogen Zenji and his followers visited Shii-no-Sho
in Echizen to build a mountain temple.
Dogen thus founded EIHEIJI, where he devoted himself to
training his followers in the perfection of ZEN practice in
every action of daily life.

(FROM: Daihozan Eiheiji, Yoshida-gun, Fukui-ken, Japan 910-1294)

Where is EIHEIJI?
EIHEIJI is situated in Fukui-Ken where it used to be called
"Echizen".
(Take a look at the last blog for more information about Fukui-Ken)

When I visited EIHEIJI, it was snowing and very cold.

But, all the monks are walking barefoot and wearing only 1 long
black shirt. Because this is also their training Zen.

Have you ever heard about Zazen?
Zazen is the way of sitting on Tatatami Mat.
You cannot move at all while doing Zazen, thus
talking or reading is never allowed.

Fukui-Ken - This is where I was born in 1979.

KonNichiwa,
This is Takanori Tomita from DSFY.com
Today, I will talk about the place where I was born.
Fukui-Ken.

Where is Fukui-Ken?

Fukui-ken is situated in near the Japanese Sea, and
it takes about 1 hour by Airplane, 2 hours by Train from
the main city, Tokyo.

What's the place like?
In Winter, Fukui-Ken is very cold, and often snowing.
But, the food is very very nice.
One of my recommendation is Japanese thin noodle
called "Soba". At Fukui-Ken, they have what they call
"Oroshi Soba" which is different to normal Soba.
Because they put grated radish on top of the Soba and
makes exquisite taste!!

If you have a chance to visit Japan, make sure you also
visit Fukui-Ken as well!
